Yearly Breach Reports Summary 2023

Yearly Breach Reports Summary 2023

This infographic, a resource I regularly use in my advisories, presents a comprehensive overview of all publicly disclosed Australian cyber attacks and data breaches from 2023. While it’s not an exhaustive list, as I’m unaware that no single source provides such information, I’m happy to be notified about other breaches, as long it has been posted in the media. I always cite my sources and encourage you to read the original reports. My reports on each incident provide a summary, ensuring you have the key details even if the original post is removed. Remember to explore the metadata categories that allow you to filter by industry, state, and threat type.

Here are a couple of notable sources I use frequently:

If you have any other favourite sources, please let me know. They should focus on or substantially cover Australian and New Zealand incidents.

Please feel free to use some acknowledgment. If you are Australian or New Zealand-based, I would appreciate it if you could connect with me on LinkedIn. I have not monetized any of this and do it in my spare time.

Here is my listing of Australian InfoSec Incidents 2023, from which the infographic was developed.

I have the data for 2002, and I will also create a graphic for that. As for 2024, it will be a work in progress that I might update quarterly.

My next slide will use the government’s official breach report summary data to create an infographic on public versus breached reports (an iceberg thing).
